Woman and baby injured – NBC 6 South Florida

A woman suffered a brain hemorrhage after she and her baby were hit by a delivery driver who allegedly put the baby back in the stroller before leaving the scene in Aventura, according to a police report.

Sarah Naybeth Parra Ovalles, 45, was arrested and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and one count of causing great bodily harm.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday when Parra Ovalles allegedly arrived at the Aventura Isles Estates neighborhood on NE 193rd Street and identified herself as an Amazon driver at the security gate. Amazon has not confirmed that the suspect worked for the company.

According to police, surveillance videos show Parra Ovalles driving a 2022 Hyundai SUV making deliveries.

Later, a woman was crossing NE 7th Avenue and NE 191st Street in the crosswalk with her young son in a stroller and a dog. When they were more than halfway across the crosswalk, Parra Ovalles reportedly drove toward them “in the opposite lane,” causing the woman to back onto the sidewalk and the stroller with the baby to fall to the ground.

She got out of the car, walked over to the child, picked up the stroller and put him in it. Then she drove away, a police report said.

Both were taken to hospital, where the woman was treated for a skull fracture, a bruise and a brain hemorrhage. The baby suffered a laceration on the forehead, police said.

Further information on her recovery was not initially available.

Parra Ovalles was arrested after police interviewed the doorman and a witness who said she heard a child crying inside her home and a car horn honking. When the witness looked out the window, she saw a woman wearing an Amazon Prime vest standing next to a gray SUV, looking around. Seconds later, she saw the woman get back into the SUV and drive away.

Their surveillance cameras also recorded the accident, police said.

The next day, police asked Parra Ovalles to come to the station for questioning. According to the arrest report, she admitted to making deliveries and seeing the victims. She said she drove up next to them and the mother seemed “out of it” and “put her hands on the hood of the car.” Parra Ovalles said she asked if she was OK, the mother nodded, and Parra Ovalles drove away.

When shown a video of the accident, she denied the accident and invoked her rights, authorities said.

Parra Ovalles was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
