Florida State will have to do without talented wide receiver in the game against Georgia Tech

The Florida State Seminoles will begin their 2024 football season without one of their promising talents. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, wide receiver Hykeem Williams will not play in the Seminoles’ game against Georgia Tech, which is scheduled to take place in Dublin, Ireland. Thamel reported that Williams is out with a minor injury, but details were not disclosed.

“Sources: Florida State will be without promising young wide receiver Hykeem Williams, who could be a potential starter this season, for today’s game against Georgia Tech. He is dealing with a minor injury and is expected to return soon. As a true freshman, he has 5 catches for 80 yards,” Thamel posted on his X page.

Williams, a former five-star prospect and top-100 recruit out of Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, was expected to play a significant role this season. In his freshman year at FSU, he made an impression with 80 receiving yards on five catches, including a touchdown, over the course of eight games. His performance secured him a spot on the list as the backup wide receiver alongside Kentron Poitier behind starter Malik Benson.

Florida State enters the game with high hopes of redeeming itself after an outstanding but bittersweet 2023 season. Despite an undefeated regular season and winning the ACC championship against Louisville, the Seminoles were eliminated from the College Football Playoffs.

This year, they look to change that, helped by former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Uiagalelei is expected to lead the team to continue the excellence of former Seminole and current New York Jets Jordan Travis.
