Waco Lowe’s managers and contractors team up to give an elderly man without air conditioning air conditioning in sweltering heat

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – The local manager of a Lowe’s home improvement store teamed up with a local contractor to get an air conditioner for an elderly man after learning he had to go without air conditioning this week in what felt like 115-degree temperatures.

Waco Lowe’s store manager Gary Moss was in the store this week when local contractor Dakota Wimberly came in and told the story of a man suffering from the extreme heat.

Moss and Wimberly often work together, and even though he didn’t even know the man’s name, Moss knew he wanted to help during the hottest week of the year.

“The contractor came in and told me about an elderly gentleman who lived near him who was having problems with his air conditioning. It had broken down and it was 100 degrees outside,” Moss said. “It’s super hot and I didn’t want anyone to go through that.”

Moss and Wimberly split the cost of the $500 window unit, which was in high demand. In fact, the entire model sold out within hours of delivery.

“All I know is he had a man in need, and I wanted to help him as best I could,” Moss said.

Wimberly said his company, Atlantik Contractors, is dedicated to helping people.

“I wanted to help because I’ve been through it myself,” Wimberly said. “When I was younger, I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to help others go through what I went through, I would be fully committed to it.”

KWTX has learned that Moss and Lowe’s have also been quietly donating to those in need during the 10 years Moss worked as a store manager in Waco. He never wanted anyone to know about it, but he received praise after Wimberly expressed his appreciation on Facebook.

“I want to take a moment and give Lowe’s of Waco the highest praise imaginable,” he wrote. “We at Atlantik Contractors and Wimberly Woodworks will always stand behind Lowe’s, just as they always stand behind us.”

Moss said he was just doing what he thought was right.

“I help as many people as I can,” he said. “We may be a large retailer, but here in Waco we try to keep the small-town feel.”
