About this event

The event lasts 3 hours 30 minutes

Playing with Our Words is a dynamic workshop that combines the thrill of Scrabble with the creativity of storytelling and poetry. Over the course of three engaging hours, participants embark on a journey where language becomes both a playground and a canvas.

The workshop begins with an exciting game of Scrabble, where every piece placed on the board becomes a seed of imagination. With every word placed on the board, not only are points awarded, but participants are also encouraged and challenged to think critically about language and its expressive potential.

Following the game, participants move on to the creative phase of the workshop. Armed with the words played in Scrabble, they use them as building blocks for creating original poems or short stories. Whether it’s the unexpected stringing of words or the challenge of incorporating a diverse vocabulary, each participant discovers new ways of expressing themselves.

Facilitators encourage lively conversation throughout the workshop, creating a supportive environment where ideas flow freely. Discussions range from strategic gameplay insights to interpretations of the meanings and emotions evoked by the selected words. This collaborative exchange not only improves participants’ literacy skills, but also deepens their appreciation for the richness of language.

At the end of Playing With Our Words, participants will have not only gained a new appreciation for language, but also a tangible creation – a poem or short story – that reflects their unique perspective and creativity. This workshop is not just about playing a game; it is about discovering the power of words to connect, inspire and transform.

This event is open to children ages 12-112. All minors must be supervised by adults. Playing With Our Words is a great event for homeschooling groups, families, word lovers, writers, and anyone who loves Scrabble.
