Ayush Badoni is the star player of South Delhi Superstars in the inaugural edition of the DPL.
The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League is just around the corner. Star player Ayush Badoni, who will play for South Delhi Superstars, expressed his excitement about the league and stressed that it has the potential to bring valuable exposure to local cricketers.
Badoni, who has scored 977 runs in 62 T20s so far, said: “The Delhi Premier League will bring a lot of exposure to the players. For me, it will be like a mini IPL. Playing games like this always boosts confidence; it will bring a lot of exposure to me and the Delhi cricketers.”
The DPL, launched by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), is scheduled to take place from August 17 to September 8, 2024, at the Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Six teams – South Delhi Superstars, East Delhi Riders, Central Delhi Kings, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions and Purani Dilli 6 – will include players like Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Harshit Rana, Yash Dhull and more.
On the prospect of playing against star players, the 24-year-old batsman said: “Delhi’s players are known for their aggressive cricket. Therefore, the DPL will be very competitive and entertaining for cricket fans.”
“What I’m most excited about in the league is playing against Ishant Sharma. We always joke about him getting me out and I tell him I’ll hit him sixes. So it will be fun to play against him,” he added.
Shikhar Dhawan owns the team South Delhi Superstars in the DPL
Badoni was the first pick for the South Delhi Superstars, owned by star Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan. When asked about Dhawan’s involvement, Badoni revealed, “After the player draft, Shikhar bhai contacted me and we regularly discussed the team and our preparations.”
“He has a lot of confidence in our team and the atmosphere is quite relaxed. We are looking forward to playing and winning the DPL Cup,” he concluded.
