Founded in 1927 by Marigold, the modern comfort restaurant opens at the Speed Art Museum
Adrienne and Kris Cole, owners of House of Marigold and Marigold Catering Company, are opening a new home cooking restaurant at the Speed Art Museum.
A new restaurant from a renowned Chicago chef is opening soon in Louisville.
Chefs Jenner Tomaska and Katrina Bravo, the husband-and-wife team behind Chicago fine-dining restaurant Esmé, are opening their second restaurant in NuLu. Since opening in 2021, Esmé has earned a Michelin star, one of the highest culinary honors.
Their new concept, called Byrdie’s, is set to open this fall in the former Rosette’s location on the ground floor of the Hotel Genevieve, 730 E Market St., Tomaska and Bravo told the Courier Journal.
As the Courier Journal previously reported, Rosette’s closed in early August.
“We want to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that exudes the fabulous NuLu neighborhood,” Tomaska and Bravo said in a statement obtained by the Courier Journal. “Guests can expect French cuisine with a Southern influence that emphasizes local products and produce.”
If you’ve never heard of Tomaska, he’s well on his way to becoming a celebrity chef. In addition to two James Beard Award nominations—including a top-five finalist in the Best Chef: Great Lakes category—Tomaska has also garnered a large online following, thanks in part to his avant-garde approach to cooking. With over 100,000 followers on Instagram, Tomaska recently shared behind-the-scenes videos of himself making a puzzle-piece-shaped cake and a buttered popcorn crème brûlée.
“We are both very happy to be in the South, where hospitality and rich culture are at the forefront,” said Tomaska and Bravo.
Byrdie’s will join the bustling NuLu district and other dining concepts at Hotel Genevieve, including rooftop restaurant Bar Genevieve with a menu inspired by French street food and Mediterranean cuisine.
Tomaska and Bravo said they were “excited to become part of such a diverse culinary scene” in Louisville.
