7 On your side: Win the battle against “funflation” and celebrate the end of summer without breaking the bank

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — People spend a lot of money to have fun, although the high prices are likely to put a strain on their wallets.

You may have heard the term “funflation”: the inflated cost of fun.

But 7 On Your Side says you really don’t have to spend a fortune to have fun, especially when it comes to celebrating the end of summer!

It seems like the earlier the sun goes down, the thinner our wallets get because vacations, back-to-school shopping, and everything else cost more.

Check out these statistics from a recent summer spending survey by badcredit.org:

– 43% of respondents found it more difficult to plan activities for their families
– 88 percent are looking for free or inexpensive entertainment options
– 70 percent of us prioritize free activities

But if you look closely, you’ll find that there are many ways to reduce inflation. We’ve found some for you!

The Mets are offering $5 per Tuesday for every home game for the remainder of the season.

Beer, sodas, pretzels, popcorn and hot dogs are $5 each!

Children can bowl for free at AMF Bowling Lanes and knock down the pins for 15% off with a back-to-school code valid until mid-September.

And play, sing and dance together at interactive concerts like “Mozart for Munchkins” in Hudson Yards.

Or attend the New York Public Library’s story time. All events are free and open to the public all season long.

How about a movie under the stars?

On a recent Friday night, no fewer than six free films were shown in New York City parks, including a Brazilian film festival in Brooklyn and children’s films in places like Staten Island, Queens and Manhattan.

So take heart – and enjoy the end of summer without going broke!
