“Even Totti would put in a good word for Dybala’s number 10 at Roma”

The Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport believes that Paulo Dybala deserves to be Roma’s number 10 after rejecting a move to the Saudi Pro League: “Even Francesco Totti would put in a good word for him.”

Dybala surprisingly turned down a three-year contract worth 25 million euros per season from Saudi club Al-Qadsiah and will therefore stay at Roma at least until the end of the season.

Roma fans were so pleased with the news that they even thanked the Argentine at his home on Thursday evening.

Il Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta claim that Roma also played a role, as the Giallorossi were unwilling to accept just €3 million for their team’s best player.

Italian newspaper says Dybala deserves Roma’s number 10 after rejecting a transfer to Saudi Arabia

Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni analyzed Dybala’s decision in a column published today in the Front page of the newspaper.

“It is nice to know that the no to a phantom football that has robbed Europe of its quality was said by a champion that has been considered spineless for years,” wrote Zazzaroni.

“I am sure that the day after tomorrow Dybala will receive the welcome he deserves from the Roma fans. The feeling of belonging is of the utmost value to the supporters.

“After this move, I am convinced that even Francesco Totti, the king of belonging, would put in a good word to give him the number 10.”

Totti spent his entire career at Roma, turning down offers from several top clubs over the years, most notably one from Real Madrid in the summer of 2002.

Roma has not retired the number 10 shirt, but no Giallorossi player has worn it since Totti’s retirement in 2017.
