The first seven competitions of the 2024 Diamond League calendar took place between April 20 and June 2, followed by a month-long break during which many countries were able to finalise their teams and plans for the upcoming Olympic Games.

About the Silesian Stadium

The Silesian Stadium underwent an extensive and lengthy renovation process from 2009 to 2017. The aim was to make it more modern and better equipped to host high-profile athletics events, although other competitions and shows also take place there.

While the modernization has reduced the facility to half its original capacity, there is still room for over 54,000 athletics fans to watch their favorite athletes, many of whom recently achieved success at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Among the participants will be Natalia Kaczmarek, who won Poland’s only athletics medal at the 2024 Olympics, a bronze in the women’s 400 metres. She will have the opportunity for a rematch against the two women who beat her in Paris – Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic (gold) and Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain (silver).

Polish hurdler Pia Skrzyszowska is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter hurdles, where she will face the entire Olympic podium – Masai Russell of the USA (gold), Cyrena Samba-Mayela of France (silver) and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico (bronze).

The other winner of the 2024 Olympic Games in the women’s category in Silesia will be Japanese Haruka Kitaguchi (javelin throw).

The men’s champions of the recent Olympic Games, held in Poland, are New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr (high jump), American Ryan Crouser (shot put), Sweden’s Armand Duplantis (pole vault), Moroccan Soufiane El Bakkali (3,000-meter steeplechase), Emmanuel Wanyonyi from Kenya (800) and Letsile Tebogo from Botswana (200).
