DUBOIS – Consolidation of the City of DuBois and Sandy Township is imminent. We’re looking at how this change will affect you.

Consolidation has been a lengthy process for Dubois City and Sandy Township officials, and much work remains to be done.

Several committees have set themselves the goal of making the transition to a unified municipality as smooth as possible.

In some places, such as the police and fire departments, the boundaries between the individual units have already become blurred.

There are problems in the Ministry of Construction, where it is proving difficult to get two different unions to work together.

The positive side is that local officials expect that consolidation will create more labor available, which in turn will lead to a more hands-on approach to construction projects.

The biggest advantage according to Township/City Manager Shawn Arbaugh will be responsible for the economic growth that will accompany the consolidation.

“We’ve had several coffee companies set up shop in town,” Arbaugh explained. “We’ve opened this new charter school that’s going to create some jobs in the area. There’s a lot of excitement right now about consolidation, and we’re seeing that in the economic development area.”

The next big date is February 2025, by which time regulations and guidelines must be in place.
