We love getting a sneak peek into what our favorite celebrity chefs use in their kitchens, so we asked Alton Brown, Pati Jinich, Maneet Chauhan, and countless others about their favorite ingredients they can’t live without.

But recently Katie Lee Biegel took over the work for us in her brand new podcast Everything on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel when she asked Bobby Flay all about his kitchen tools. We’ve rounded up his favorites, from what he keeps in his fridge to the simple ingredients he needs for quick meals. Read on and note down his favorite ingredients so you can cook like the famous chef – or at least try.

What’s in Bobby Flay’s fridge

When Biegel asked Flay what was in his fridge, the first ingredient that came to mind was Defeat Bobby Flay The star had a gut-friendly alternative in mind: yogurt. And he also named his favorite brands.

“I like Siggi’s, I like Fage and I like The White Moustache, I’m happy with any of those three,” says Flay. Yogurt is a high-protein choice for a snack or as a breakfast base, and because of its probiotics, it’s especially healthy for the gut and heart. We think Flay likes to enjoy his yogurt with his next must-have in the fridge.

“(I) always eat some berries,” says the chef. “I’m a blackberry guy, so I like blackberries the most.” He shares that he’s also a fan of blueberries, raspberries and strawberries – in that order. Whatever your favorite berry is, we declare it an A-plus choice as they’re high in fiber for a satisfying bite. Combine berries and yogurt for a satisfying spoonful, or step it up with our Nut and Berry Parfait for a light breakfast that feels luxurious.

Flay is also a cheese fan (aren’t we all?) and his favorite is Parmigiano Reggiano, chunky or grated. But he has “many different cheeses” in his kitchen, along with other dairy products like crème fraîche and butter. And he “always” has eggs available.

“I keep it pretty simple,” he explains. “I don’t like overstuffed fridges, it drives me crazy.” That’s why you won’t find leftovers from dinner or other meals in the chef’s fridge. He just doesn’t like them, but Biegel admits that in the past she has gone to Flay’s house to get the Thanksgiving leftovers, knowing he himself wouldn’t like them. We’d do the same, Katie!

What’s in Bobby Flay’s pantry

When Flay needs to shop and doesn’t have much on hand, he turns to pasta and rice, which he always has ready to cook. And with a well-stocked spice cabinet and pantry, the possibilities are endless.

“I love salty things, so I always have anchovies, I always have capers, I always have some kind of Parmigiano cheese,” he says. With these simple ingredients and spices like black pepper, the chef can whip up simple dishes like cacio e pepe and carbonara with ease.

Anchovies are a totally underrated canned fish because they’re high in omega-3 fatty acids and protein. But, as Flay notes, they’re salty, so it’s important to balance them with low-sodium ingredients. That’s why we love the fish in our Garlic Anchovy Pasta with Broccolini.

And last but not least, if you think that after a hard day on set the chef spends his time simmering homemade tomato sauce, you are wrong.

“Having tomato sauce in a jar is a great thing because you can just open it,” Flay says. “And you can at least eat pasta with tomato sauce.” There is perhaps nothing more comforting than a cozy bowl of pasta, and sometimes jarred sauce tastes just as good as homemade.

One final note Flay wants you to keep in mind is that your pantry may need a refresh. There are some things you should consider tossing when you get the chance.

“Pantries need to be cleaned out because things spoil,” he explains. Be sure to check the expiration dates on your non-perishable foods and spices—Flay stresses that old spices “can lose all their flavor.”
