Fake bank teller scams Saratoga resident out of ,000 – The Mercury News

13 August

Credit card theft: Someone used the victim’s credit card information to make a fraudulent purchase totaling approximately $1,794.

Embezzlement: A business owner reported that a former employee made unauthorized online purchases using a company credit card, losing a total of approximately $1,493. The victim lives and operates his business in Saratoga.

14 August

Petty Theft: At 2:01 p.m., the suspect entered the O’Reilly Auto Parts repair shop on Prospect Road and stole merchandise valued at approximately $88.

15.August

Theft by false pretense: A Saratoga resident said someone called him as a bank representative, claimed there was fraudulent activity related to the victim’s bank account, and instructed the victim to transfer money to an unknown account. The bank was unable to stop the transfer, and the victim lost about $49,000.

Vehicle Theft: At 2:51 a.m., a vehicle parked in the 18000 block of Vanderbilt Drive was stolen. The vehicle was recovered later that same day in Oakland.

Grand Theft: At 11:41 a.m., two suspects stole tools from a workbench in the front yard of a residence in the 12000 block of Cumberland Drive while the victim was doing construction work inside the home. Damage was approximately $1,250.

16.August

Gun theft: Someone stole a gun from the victim’s home in the 12000 block of Saraglen Drive. The victim had just discovered the theft and had several service personnel at the home the year before to help him with estate sales. The gun was valued at approximately $400.

18.August

DUI: At 8:35 a.m., officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 14000 block of Teerlink Way due to a car blocking the roadway. An investigation revealed the driver was driving under the influence of drugs. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Main Jail.

Organized Shoplifting: At 7:40 p.m., two suspects entered the CVS store in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and stole merchandise of undisclosed value.
