It’s no secret that while working in radio isn’t always glamorous, sometimes it does have its cool little perks, like meeting big celebrities backstage while they’re on tour.
Admittedly, this doesn’t happen very often, but when it does happen, we take full advantage. A few years ago, I had the chance to go behind the scenes at two different concerts in the same week.
The first was Luke Combs’ show in Bangor. However, I was supposed to be DJing at a wedding that night and couldn’t attend, so my wife reluctantly had to go without me. As you can imagine, I never let her forget that, even though we’ve seen him several times since then.
That same week, in another state, we had the opportunity to hang out backstage and have cocktails with some other country legends. Backstage at the Pavilion in New Hampshire, we got to chill with Tracy Lawrence and Jason Aldean. Thankfully, I had NO other commitments that night.
Of course, as we all know, Luke Combs is expected back in Bangor, Maine tonight to perform a show he tried to make up for a few years ago. As you’ll recall, Luke’s last appearance in Maine was a doubleheader. However, due to his strained voice, Luke gave everyone their money back at the second show, performed anyway, and promised to come back. That’s why he’s in Maine tonight.
So will we end up backstage tonight? That’s not decided yet, but I’ve contacted Luke’s tour manager and reminded them that I couldn’t be there last time because I was “performing” too. We’ll see what happens. For now, I’ve just been left on “read.”
