Schools inaugurate new facilities
(Seguin) – Today is the day that Seguin ISD officially celebrates the completion of its final two bond projects.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies are planned for this morning at both AJ Briesemeister Middle School and Ball Early Childhood Center.
Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Veronica Vijil will also be participating in the festivities and will offer the public the opportunity to stop by and tour the new facilities.
“Man oh man, let’s talk about AJB first. It’s been three years in the making and now we’re finally at the opening ceremony. And I say finally, not in such a negative tone, but yes, now we get to cut the ribbon and showcase this beautiful campus that will have so much student engagement and that’s what the kids deserve,” said Dr. Vijil.
In the 2019 bond election, voters approved $39 million for the complete renovation/construction of AJB. The project included a complete remodel of the entire campus at its original location.
Dr. Vijil says the district is also excited about the additional classroom space at Ball ECC.
About two months ago, district officials announced the completion of the new wing. In fact, they were thrilled that it was completed “a remarkable three weeks ahead of schedule.” They say that gave them plenty of time to outfit this new part of the school with brand new, tiny furniture.
“Ball, I’ve been in the new classrooms and they are just beautiful and they are set up for success. They are set up for our youngest students to succeed in these classrooms. When I walk through Ball, in grades 3 and 4, I can tell that the work of these teachers is doing wonders,” said Dr. Vijil.
The first ribbon will be cut today at the ball starting at 9 a.m. The public is then invited to come to the AJB, where the ribbon will be cut and a guided tour will take place at 9:45 a.m.
