Maintaining the momentum of the recent 2024 Summer Olympics is as important for athletics as a whole as it is for individual athletes who want to build on the success of Paris.
Some sports have high-profile professional leagues that athletes can return to, such as the NBA in the US, while athletics has the global Wanda Diamond League, which will be a permanent feature of FloTrack next year.
Next on the programme is the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, held annually since 2009 in honour of Poland’s youngest Olympic champion – Kamila Skolimowska – who won the women’s hammer throw at the 2000 Olympic Games. Tragically, Skolimowska died of a pulmonary embolism during a training session in Portugal in 2009 at the age of 26.
The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will take place at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland, which was opened in 1956.
This year’s Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial will take place on August 25th.
At the 2023 edition of the event in Silesia, 17 of the competitors won titles at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest later that year.
What has happened so far in the 2024 Diamond League season?
The first two stops of the 2024 Diamond League season were in China – Xiamen (April 20) and Shanghai/Suzhou (April 27). The tour then visited Qatar (May 10), Morocco (May 19), Eugene, Oregon (May 25), Oslo, Norway (May 30), Stockholm (June 2), Paris (July 7), Monaco (July 12) and London (July 20) before taking a break for the Olympic Games, which ran from July 26 to August 11.
The final events on the 2024 Diamond League calendar are Lausanne, Switzerland (August 22), Silesia (August 25), Rome (August 30), Zurich (September 5) and Brussels (September 13-14).
The Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will feature seven men’s and seven women’s disciplines as athletes continue to earn points towards the final event of the year in Belgium.
The Diamond League, which is by invitation only, brings together the best athletes to demonstrate their skills, win prize money, collect points for the championship tournament at the end of the season and ultimately increase the reputation of athletics worldwide.
Traditionally, the Diamond League competitions include 16 disciplines, although not all of them are represented at every competition.
Points earned during the first 14 events of the season determine which athletes advance to the finals, where they compete for more prize money and Diamond League titles.

The one-day Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial/Diamond League Silesia 2024 will take place on August 25 at the Silesian Stadium.
How to watch the Diamond League Silesia (Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial) 2024
For viewers in the United States, live coverage of the one-day event will be provided by Peacock and the action will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. It is one of many Diamond League events that will be broadcast by Peacock and/or NBC or one of the other related networks this year.
Beginning in 2025, as announced on April 10, FloTrack will be the streaming home of the Diamond League for viewers in the United States and its territories (excluding all events held in the United States).

Although there are many events that are part of the Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial 2024, only some of them will count towards this year’s Diamond League points.
Men (7): High jump, shot put, pole vault, 200 metres, 800 metres, 3,000 metres and 3,000 metres steeplechase
Women (7): 100 metres, 100-metre hurdles, 400 metres, 400-metre hurdles, 1500 metres, triple jump, javelin throw
