The secrets of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” that will never be revealed without a second season

The possible return of one of their mothers and a possible resurgence of the coven under new (and much more vengeful) leadership would certainly have been an interesting storyline to explore in both the collective and individual journeys of Mae and Osha. But without a second season, we’ll never know whether or not we were right about Mother Koril.

What role would Yoda have played in season 2?

With his last shot The Acolyte hinted that Yoda would be at least peripherally involved in Season 2. In the final scene of the series, Master Vern enters Yoda’s chamber to receive guidance. But before we can hear what wisdom Yoda imparts to the Jedi Master, the screen goes black. Presumably Season 2 would have expanded on this scene further. What Yoda’s role might have been beyond that is unclear.

Headland tells Den of Geek that the introduction of Yoda was “always the final point” of the first season, explaining that “when you introduce Plagueis, you have to introduce a worthy adversary.” But beyond equal opportunities, Headland was also interested in “figuring out why Yoda knows about the Rule of Two” in The Phantom Menace.

But although Yoda’s presence would definitely have been an interesting addition to the series’ further development, it doesn’t seem like The Acolyte had plans to suddenly become the Yoda show. When asked if more Yoda could be expected in a possible second season, Headland stressed that fans should expect Yoda’s “influence.” While it’s possible Yoda would have appeared a few times in season 2, it doesn’t sound like he suddenly became the main character either.

What was the next part of Mae and Osha’s stories?

The Acolyte ends with Mae and Osha effectively switching places (but not identities this time). Mae’s memories of Qimir’s existence and knowledge of Osha’s survival have been erased. Her last memory is of the compound on Brendok burning. In the final scenes of the finale, Mae is taken into custody by Vernestra and brought to Coruscant. Meanwhile, Osha leaves Brendok with Qimir – after killing Sol and uncovering the truth about Mother Aniseya’s death – to train with him.

Osha’s next steps would no doubt have required her to delve deeper into the dark side, learning the ways of the Sith while continuing to maintain a difficult alliance with Qimir. Headland gave a taste of what that dynamic would have looked like in Season 2, saying, “As the last shot of the season shows, we have these two people who are coming together. I want to explore how complicated that relationship can get when one is thirsting for power and one needs to keep it. That would get complicated for two people who consider themselves equals.”
