BATON ROUGE – Former SEC POY and All-America LSU golfer Madelene Sagstrom looks to solidify her selection for the 2024 Solheim Cup team with a solid performance at the AIG Women’s Open, which begins Thursday.

This year the event will take place in the home of golf, the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Sagstrom is one of the group of six members of the Rolex Ranking who automatically qualify for the European Solheim Cup team, so a good result at the Open would automatically put her in a qualifying position. Sagstrom has already played three Solheim Cups for Europe in 2017, 2021 and 2023.

This is Sagstrom’s eighth time competing in the Women’s Open, and she posted her two best finishes at a major: tied for second in 2021 and tied for fourth in 2022.

This is the third time the tournament has been held at St. Andrews. The winner was Lorena Ochoa in 2007 and Stacy Lewis in 2013.

Sagstrom played at LSU from 2011 to 2015 and was named SEC Player of the Year in 2015. He won two titles, including an NCAA regional championship.

The event begins early Thursday morning at 1 a.m. Baton Rouge time (7 a.m. in Scotland), with Sagstrom teeing off in the first group from the No. 10 tee.

Thursday and Friday telecasts are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT on USA Network. Over the weekend, coverage on USA begins at 6 a.m. and moves to NBC Sports and Peacock at 11 a.m. CT.
