Transformational national science and research priorities focus on results

Transformational national science and research priorities focus on results

“These two priorities reflect feedback from ATSE and others in the industry.”

Crucially, the National Science and Research Priorities indicate that they will inform and guide national research policy and drive investment and activity in university and industry research and development.

“The five priorities – which cover climate, environment, traditional knowledge, our communities and our nation – speak clearly to the most important research challenges and opportunities of our time,” says ATSE CEO Kylie Walker.

“The importance of these priorities underscores the need to raise Australia’s ambition and performance through increased investment in research and development (R&D), which will be examined as part of the upcoming independent review of R&D. ATSE advocates increasing R&D investment across the economy to internationally competitive levels of at least 3% of GDP,” said Kylie Walker.

ATSE is pleased to have been involved throughout the process of relaunching the priorities and thanks the Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM FAA FTSE, for leading the extensive consultations in developing these priorities.

ATSE stands ready to work with the Government to guide national policies and investments to realise the transformative potential of the priorities.
