Travel service provider Trip.com Group has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Merlin Entertainments to attract visitors to maritime events and experiences across Asia.

Trip.com and Merlin will collaborate on events across the Asia region, with the partnership utilizing attractions such as Chang Feng Ocean World Shanghai, Sea Life Bangkok, Sea Life Busan and the COEX Aquarium in Seoul.

At attractions like these, visitors can enjoy a varied program ranging from Science Night at the Aquarium to marine-themed festivals.

According to Merlin, the diverse range of programs will not only inform and inspire travelers, but will also create a deeper understanding of the marine environment and highlight the critical role people play in protecting the world’s oceans.

“Our partnership will explore exciting new avenues and focus on tailoring products for our customers around the world,” said Jim Ji, Vice President of Trip.com Group and CEO of Attractions and Tours.

“Together, we aim to enrich the traveler’s journey and make exploring the world more accessible and fun through attractive branded entertainment destinations.”

As part of the MOU, Trip.com and Merlin also reaffirmed their commitment to developing new technologies to transform products and improve the guest experience. This approach, the two companies say, not only paves the way for industry-first prototypes, but also “sets a new benchmark for the future of travel.”

“We know that the needs of today’s travelers are evolving. They demand more immersion and more meaning in their journeys,” said Fiona Eastwood, COO of Merlin Entertainment’s Gateway and Resort Theme Parks.

“The partnership is not just about driving business growth; it is also about providing exceptional experiences to our guests and fulfilling our ongoing commitment to preserving marine ecosystems for future generations.”
