Notes on the category “Today’s connections”
AUGUST 22 #437
To get help with the categories, you need some clues that will give you a starting point without giving you the answers. Check out these four clues and try to figure out the categories yourself:
- A category concerns equipment for a specific industry
- A category that you can reach via stairs
- A category is shortened proper names of a media form
- A category is a group of words used to describe a mischievous action
Despite these pointers, you may still want some reassurance that you are on the right track. In this case, we have listed some category names below that can help you with that.

PROJECTOR |

SPEAKERS |
Although the title says “Classic”, the only thing that has really changed is the role itself. Movie theaters still use projectors, screens, and speakers, but most people are probably familiar with the use of a film reel as a cinema aid.
Still, the presence of REEL, STORY, and POST in the same puzzle gives the false impression of a possible social media category. However, don’t let that fool you and trust your instinct that a REEL is a film strip.

DECK |

STORY |
Animal seems like a strange way to describe these things, but they are all a level of something. STORY could be confused, as I said, but DECK is an outsider in many ways. It’s a type of flooring, but it feels less like a “LEVEL” and more like something attached to one. Other than that, it’s the only other word that seems to belong, although STREAK could certainly fit in a more video game-like sense.

GLOBE |

SUN |
If you are not so familiar with newspaper namesthat might confuse you. They have no other connection at all, except maybe GLOBE and SUN. However, MIRROR and POST don’t seem to fit those two words at all, and that can make it difficult.
If you could relate POST to the forms of mail delivered, that might be a roundabout way to return to that category. Frankly, though, unless you are personally familiar with many of these papers, you probably won’t understand them.

EGG |
MOON |
STRETCH |
TOILET PAPER |
If the past category was confusing because of its specificity, this one seems difficult because of its vagueness. MOON could easily belong to GLOBE and SUN, and the others don’t seem to belong anywhere. I also have a problem with “TOILET PAPER” being considered a verb, since no teenager pulling that particular prank is going to call it by its full name, and it’s a noun in this case. The others are occasionally used as verbs, but this one is hard to connect.
