5 Reasons to Watch Colin From Accounts Before Season 2 Premieres

5 Reasons to Watch Colin From Accounts Before Season 2 Premieres

When it comes to television, titles can make or break a show, and I admit I was guilty of assuming I knew what Paramount+’s Colin from Accounting was about when I saw the title. It’s a workplace comedy about a guy called Colin who works in accounting, right? Wrong.

I admit I’m guilty of making this assumption, but the Australian comedy from creators and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer is anything but a workplace comedy. The eight-episode first season came out on Paramount+ in November 2023, and with season 2 set to arrive on September 26, below are reasons why now is the perfect time to become a fan of the series before the latest episodes drop.

The dog

(Spoiler alert) The show’s title refers not to a man who works in accounting, but to the name Gordon (Brammall) and Ashley (Dyer) give to a puppy they meet in the first episode. The terrier is a shining star in the comedy about two people who come together under unusual circumstances. There’s not much to add, except the fact that Colin (played by Zak) is so cute, it’s difficult not to be charmed by his big brown puppy eyes.

Relationships on and off screen

While Brammall and Dyer play lovers on screen, the two are also married in real life, which adds a very special layer to this unexpected comedy. Brammall and Dyer, who co-created and star in the series, clearly have a certain familiarity that translates well on screen, and some moments are even funnier with this background knowledge.

Gordon and Ashley’s sweet meeting

Another spoiler: Gordon and Ashley’s meeting is anything but conventional and perhaps one of the funniest. It begins when Harriet, who is having bad luck in her romantic relationship, takes a swig from her tequila bottle and heads to work. As she crosses the street, she turns and catches Gordon’s eye as he sits in his car. The look distracts him so much that he hits Colin with his car and the two strangers take the puppy to a veterinarian’s office. Their lives are changed forever.

It is a romance

As mentioned above, Gordon and Ashley meet under unusual circumstances, and when they find themselves forced to take care of Colin, that’s the element that brings these two people together. Gordon runs a local brewery and Ashley is a medical student, and both bring a lot of baggage with them, but their story is clearly a case of twists of fate. In other words, you’ll find yourself drawn into their complicated relationship.

Lots of heart

While Ashley and Gordon aren’t perfect people, they try their best under the circumstances. Although it would probably be easier to euthanize Colin after realizing the severity of his injuries from the blow, Ashley and Gordon don’t have the heart to condemn the pup to death. Instead, they choose to care for the special needs dog, even if it makes their own lives harder. And throughout the course of the first season, there are many heartfelt moments and revelations that are quite dramatic and balance out the hilarious moments that make up most of the series.

Don’t wait and watch this gem of a series now before the second season comes out in September.
