NAWALPASARI: Hupsekot Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has informed that it has so far opened bank accounts in the names of 256 daughters with a deposit of Rs 5,000.

As part of its “Golden Future of Our Daughters” programme, the Hupsekot Municipality has deposited the amount into the bank accounts opened in the names of the daughters.

The programme, launched in the financial year 2077/78 BS, had begun with the deposit of money into the bank accounts of girls born in the rural community.

Hupsekot Rural Municipality Chairperson Laxmi Devi Pandey said Rs 1.28 million had been deposited into relevant bank accounts so far.

“The amount was deposited into the bank accounts of 38 girls in the financial year 2077/78 BS, 59 in the year 2078/79, 97 in the year 2079/80 and 62 in the year 2080/81,” she said.

“After the birth registration at the district office, we arranged for a bank account to be opened in the girl’s name and deposited Rs 5,000 from the municipality and Rs 5,000 from the parents.”

The guardian manages the bank account opened in the daughter’s name.

Chairman Pandey noted that the programme was launched with the expectation that the money would be used to enable the daughters to pursue higher education.

“It is expected that the money placed in the bank will foster the habit of saving for the daughter’s golden future and encourage her to pursue further studies,” she said.
