US President Joe Biden delivered a farewell speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois, on August 19, 2024, and officially handed over the presidential candidacy to Kamala Harris.
After 52 years of cementing his influence within the Democratic Party, Biden, 81, was met with enthusiasm when he announced his retirement in favor of Harris, a move that followed growing pressure within the party to withdraw his re-election bid.
The first day of the convention in Chicago was full of emotions. Biden got teary-eyed as the crowd chanted “We love you.” His daughter Ashley welcomed him to the stage and he received a standing ovation that lasted over four minutes.

Critics voiced their opinions on social media, with some users questioning Biden’s suitability for the office due to his age and alleged mental fitness. Biden himself acknowledged his age, saying he was “too old to serve as president of the country,” just as he was “too young to serve as a senator” at under 30.
“And these stupid low IQ people actually cheer over words that make no sense… Yes, this really happened,” wrote one user.
“He’s grinning like an idiot. The crowd cheers and collectively breathes a sigh of relief that Obama politically murdered him,” commented another.
