Family asks man who hit and killed a man in a wheelchair in Pasadena to turn himself in

PASADENA, Texas – A family is demanding answers after a 73-year-old Pasadena man was killed in a hit-and-run attack on his way to breakfast.

Relatives identified Erasmo Perez as the man who died in his electric wheelchair.

It happened around 6 a.m. Thursday near Southmore and Shaver Street in Pasadena.

The family says it is disheartening to know that days after the accident nothing has changed and the driver is still at large.

They hope that the driver of the truck that hit Perez will come forward.

An electric wheelchair was the main means of transportation for 73-year-old Erasmo Perez.

“My father was a people person. He loved to talk and had so many friends,” said David Perez.

For the past eight years, Perez has gone to McDonald’s in a Walmart in Pasadena every morning for breakfast.

“They already knew him and he had his sausage roll and coffee every morning. He drove the same route every morning,” said David. “He didn’t make it on Thursday.”

David said his father was killed by a fleeing driver, and surveillance photos show flashes from the dark truck believed to be involved.

“That vehicle had no remorse,” David said. “It was six in the morning and it dragged him 210 feet, you know, and then pulled into a driveway to back out and then kept going. That tells me you tortured my father. You know, you really, really tortured him.”

The wheelchair that helped him after he was paralyzed by a stroke is now in ruins.

“His wheelchair was in a dumpster. It was broken into pieces,” David said.

At the spot where Perez always sat, there is a monument with pictures and Perez’s favorite food. His son has a message for the driver.

“Just come forward, man. You know, let it go. Just do what you can, and we’ll just be honest and come forward, man. Nobody wants you to get hurt. We just want justice for our family, for our father,” he said.

Perez says he wants his father to be remembered as a great man who loved his family.

Anyone with information about the fatal hit-and-run crash is asked to call Pasadena Police.

KPRC 2’s Corley Peel will have more on this story tonight at 10.
