Charles “Chuck” Carter Jr., – Grice Connect

Charles “Chuck” Carter Jr., also known as Papa, was welcomed home by the Lord on Monday, August 19th 2024 at the age of 56.

He was born and raised in Rincon, Georgia. He graduated from Effingham County High School in 1985 and immediately joined the Georgia Army National Guard. He attended the Air Force Academy on a partial football scholarship before graduating from the University of Georgia in 1993 with a degree in high school education.

During his 33 years with the Georgia Army National Guard, he served as a combat engineer and was deployed three times, twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. He was both proud and humbled to receive many military awards and decorations while serving our country.

In 1994, Chuck and Cindy married and raised their children as active members of Nevils Trinity Baptist Church in Bulloch County.

Chuck is predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cindy Collins Carter, and their three children, Christen (Drew) Sherrod, Cole (Leah) Carter, and Caleb Carter. His four grandchildren, Liam Carter, Adeline Sherrod, Collins Carter, and Stetson Sherrod, loved him very much and called him Papa. Not to mention his best Weimaraner girl, Ellie Mae. He is also survived by his parents, Marsha Carter and Ashley Carter, his siblings, Shannon (Stephanie) Carter and Angela Jackson, his in-laws, Pat and Kenny Collins, his sister-in-law, Christi Sanders (Dana), and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 21st at Nevils Trinity Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Eason officiating.

Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

Pallbearers will be Chuck’s best friends Stevie Spence, Chris Kolgaklis, Robbie Taylor, John Burns, Mike McLendon and Dana Sanders. Volunteer pallbearers will be Patrick Chambers, Matthew McBride, Ryan McBride, Steven McBride and Marshall Duke.

The Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory in Statesboro is responsible for the arrangement.
