‘Large, coordinated group’ of reckless drivers caught on video in Fort Wayne area

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Police are investigating after a “large, uncoordinated group” of drivers were filmed driving recklessly through Fort Wayne Saturday night.

Some witnesses described the situation as “out of control” and expressed fear that it could happen again.

21Investigators found videos and reports of reckless driving at three intersections – E. State Boulevard and Hobson Road, N. Anthony Boulevard and Lake Avenue, and Smith and Engle Roads.

Fort Wayne police said they are investigating the incidents.

“It appears that a large, coordinated group of vehicles caused traffic delays in Fort Wayne and the county this weekend,” Fort Wayne Police said in a statement. “We were made aware of videos posted on social media capturing this dangerous activity.”

“FWPD will review camera footage to identify vehicles and individuals involved in this reckless behavior.”

Police say any criminal charges filed will be forwarded to the Allen County District Attorney’s Office.

Charges have been filed against a 20-year-old from Fort Wayne who appears to have been involved in similar incidents. At around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Muang Soe was charged with reckless driving and possession of alcohol as a minor, as well as several other misdemeanors.

According to court records, police responded to reports of several vehicles doing burnouts in the 7900 block of Decatur Road. When an officer turned on the hazard lights and siren, several people rushed back to their cars and three vehicles sped away with “loud engines and screeching tires.”

The officer pursued a Dodge Challenger, a Mustang and a Subaru down the road and allegedly observed the driver of the Challenger disregard a stop sign as they sped through the intersection of S. Anthony Boulevard and Decatur Road, court documents state. Near the intersection of S. Anthony Boulevard and Tillman Road, the vehicle stopped.

According to court records, police allegedly smelled marijuana and alcohol coming from the car and saw an open Modelo in the car. Two breathalyzer tests showed Soe had a blood alcohol content of over .070%.

Soe reportedly admitted to drinking and said he was “just chilling.”

There were two teenagers in the vehicle, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old.
