Michaela Coel to create and star in new series ‘First Day On Earth’ for HBO and BBC | BBC, First Day On Earth, HBO, Michaela Coel, TV | Just Jared: Celebrity News & Gossip

Michaela Coel is teaming up with HBO and BBC for a new drama series!

The 36-year-old Emmy award winner created the new series First day on earthin which she also plays the lead role, writes the screenplay and serves as executive producer.

Here is the synopsis of the show: “British novelist Henri (Coel) is stuck. Work has dried up, her relationship isn’t progressing. So when she’s offered a job on a film in Ghana, West Africa – her parents’ homeland, where her estranged father lives – she can’t resist the chance to reconnect with him and the country of her origins. But when she arrives, neither the job nor her father turn out as she expected, and soon Henri must contend with danger and hypocrisy, make new friends, lose her illusions, and develop a new sense of identity – one that may make her stronger, but could also break her.”

Their combined taste, care and expertise make me feel our show is in good hands,” shared Michaela.First day on earth is another very personal story for me that I hope will captivate viewers around the world and I can’t wait for audiences to join Henri on her journey.”

Michaela previously worked with HBO for their 2020 limited series I could destroy youfor which she received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Screenplay for a Miniseries, Anthology Series or Movie.

Filming for First day on earth is scheduled to begin in 2025.
