Patriots ‘can call’ to find potential new star WR candidate, says Jerod Mayo

It looks like the Brandon Aiyuk train has left the station. But CeeDee Lamb? The New England Patriots may still be calling.

During his appearance on WEEI’s “Greg Hill Show” on Monday, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo discussed the team’s high-profile search for a star wide receiver.

Things didn’t work out with Calvin Ridley or Aiyuk. However, Lamb could be another star receiver.

The Dallas Cowboys star is waiting for a new contract – and has therefore been the subject of transfer rumors. Would the Patriots be interested?

“I can’t talk about players from our other teams, but you can call,” Mayo said.

The Patriots failed twice this offseason in their attempts to sign a star receiver. Ridley ultimately passed on New England and signed a four-year, $92 million contract with the Tennessee Titans.

And then there’s Aiyuk. The Patriots reportedly had the highest offer for the San Francisco 49ers star. However, Aiyuk reportedly didn’t want to come to New England.

It looks like the Stars don’t want to come to New England anymore. What will it take to change that? Mayo says the Patriots just need to start winning again.

“I think once this whole thing works and we start winning games, more players will want to come here,” Mayo said. “I mean, it’s a great place here in New England. If you love football, this is a place you want to be.”

The Cowboys reportedly offered Lamb a contract that would pay him $33 million per year, which would make him the No. 2 highest-paid receiver in the league. But since Lamb reportedly turned down that offer, rumors of the Dallas star being traded have resurfaced.

Lamb, 25, is a three-time Pro Bowler and was just named to the First-Team All-Pro selection for the first time. In 2023, Lamb had 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 135 receptions, a league-high.
