Delaware State Police arrest Wilmington man for drunk driving and drug charges after traffic stop in Newark

NEWARK, Delaware. — Delaware State Police arrested 43-year-old Donelle Harris of Wilmington on charges of driving under the influence and aggravated drug offenses following a traffic stop early Sunday morning in Newark.

The incident occurred on August 18, 2024 at approximately 1:14 a.m., when a state trooper patrolling the area of ​​I-95 and Christiana Road noticed a dark gray Ford Edge traveling southbound on I-95 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked at over 85 mph in a zone with a 65 mph speed limit. The trooper also noticed the Ford failing to maintain its lane, following other vehicles too closely, and committing several other traffic violations.

When the officer stopped the vehicle, he identified the driver as Donelle Harris, the only occupant of the car. During the interaction, the officer noticed signs of impairment, including the odor of alcohol on Harris’ breath. After Harris performed standardized sobriety tests, which he failed, the officer arrested him without incident.

A subsequent search of Harris revealed:

  • Approximately 5.24 grams of crack cocaine in a clear plastic bag
  • 34 tablets with oxycodone hydrochloride and paracetamol
  • Various drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale and several mobile phones

Harris is now facing charges including driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance with intent to resell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken into custody and will be held pending arraignment.

Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incident.

  • Baltimore police investigate fatal shooting on North Decker Avenue

    BALTIMORE — A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in Baltimore’s Eastern District on Sunday afternoon, the latest in a series of violent incidents in the area.

    Baltimore Police officers responded to a call reporting a shooting on August 18, 2024 at approximately 4:11 p.m. Upon arrival in the 1400 block of N. Decker Avenue, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save his life, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

    The Homicide Squad has taken over the investigation and is trying to clarify the circumstances of the shooting. No suspects have been identified yet and the investigation is ongoing.

    Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they try to determine the cause of the fatal shooting.

  • Schenectady Police Investigate Albany Street Shooting

    SCHENECTADY, ​​NY — Schenectady police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the area of ​​Albany Street and Kelton Avenue. Officers responded to a report of shots fired around 7:56 a.m. and discovered a male victim who had been attacked but not struck by gunfire.

    Upon arrival, police found the victim with non-life-threatening injuries sustained during a physical altercation with the suspect following the shooting. The victim was transported to Ellis Hospital for treatment and a handgun was recovered at the scene.

    The Schenectady Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit is actively investigating the incident. No suspects are currently in custody.
