“Pimpinero: Blood and Oil” is coming to Prime Video

Prime Video will release the new Spanish-language film “Pimpinero: Blood and Oil” on September 9, 2024.

Directed by Andrés Baiz (“Griselda,” “Narcos,” “The Hidden Face”), “Pimpinero: Blood and Oil” explores the powerful and universal themes of boundaries and familial ties, making it a must-see for audiences around the world. The cast includes Alberto Guerra (“Griselda”), Alejandro Speitzer (“La Cabeza de Joaquin Murrieta”), Laura Osma (“Goles en contra”) and multi-award-winning Grammy artist Juanes.

“Pimpinero: Blood and Oil” has been officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival, with the world premiere taking place on November 9.th September. The film is part of the international centerpiece program at TIFF and is scheduled to be released on Prime Video later this year.

Pimpinero: Blood and Oil is set in the desert border between Colombia and Venezuela, where petrol smugglers known as pimpineros risk their lives transporting illegal fuel from one country to the other. When Juan – the youngest of three brothers involved in this dangerous business – is forced to work for a sinister rival, the dark side of the business is revealed with tragic consequences. Juan’s girlfriend Diana embarks on a quest for the truth to uncover the cruel secrets that surround this no-man’s land.

The film is produced by the production company Dynamo. The screenplay was written by María Camila Arias (“Birds of Passage”), and directed, written and produced by Andrés Baiz (“Griselda,” “Narcos,” “The Hidden Face”). The production team includes Andrés Calderón (“La Cabeza de Joaquin Murrieta,” “Narcos”) as producer and Cyndi Rojas (“Mile 22”) as associate producer.

“‘Pimpinero: Blood and Oil’ is about geographical boundaries, but above all about ethical, moral, emotional and human boundaries,” said Andrés Baiz, director, screenwriter and producer of the film. “The result is an exciting film full of beauty, truth and a lot of adrenaline. I can’t wait to share it with the audience.”

“Pimpinero: Blood and Oil” joins Prime Video’s growing slate of non-English language originals, including recent international hits such as “My Fault,” “Maxton Hall – The World Between Us” and “Red Queen,” as well as upcoming titles such as “Your Fault,” “Freedom” and “Like a Dragon: Yakuza.”
