FAT32 can handle up to 2 TB in the new Windows 11 Preview Build

The FAT32 file system can now handle 2 TB and no longer has the 32 GB limitation. Windows 11 also has new power management modes that allow users to select the main power or battery settings separately. The new features are part of a new build available to Windows 11 Insiders through the Canary Channel.

In the latest Canary update Build 27686 for Windows 11, Microsoft is bringing several new features to its operating system. For example, the Windows Sandbox Client Preview has been improved. This can now be updated via the Microsoft Store. It also now has a runtime clipboard redirection that allows users to transfer copied content from the host system to the temporary sandbox.

Another interesting feature added to Build 27686 is the additional 2TB support for FAT32 storage. When formatting within Windows, the FAT32 size is now expanded from 32GB to 2TB of storage.

Sandbox Client Preview now also has additional audio/video control features and allows sharing folders with the host at runtime. In addition, the application has received the first version with command line support.

Energy settings

In addition, this latest Windows Insider build offers new power setting options. Within Windows 11, it is now possible to set different power modes when the device is running on AC power or battery power. The different versions are “Plugged in” and “On battery”.

While Windows previously automatically adjusted the energy settings depending on battery or mains operation, for example with profiles such as “Best Performance”, “Balanced” or “Best Energy Efficiency”, the user can now determine these settings themselves as desired using two separate setting options.

Users can use these options independently, so that the Windows 11 device has a different power profile depending on whether it is plugged in or running on battery power.

Further updates

Other options added to the latest Windows 11 Insider Canary Build 27686 include more control over HDR settings, a dedicated button to detach virtual hard disks (VHD/VHDx), and regular Microsoft network tests to collect diagnostic data.
