Chicken Nuggets/Tenders Recall – What Texans Should Know

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service has issued a warning to Texas shoppers in Beaumont, Orange, Port Arthur, Jasper, Tyler and Lufkin. In fact, any location in the state that sells ready-to-eat chicken nuggets and chicken tenders frozen and ready to heat up and eat should be aware of this recall.

According to FSIS, the recall affects approximately 175,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken nuggets and chicken tenders products. The products could potentially be contaminated with foreign material. The USDA and FSIS press release suggests that the foreign material could be metallic in nature.

Here’s what we know about the recalled products. The recall was initiated by Perdue Foods LLC of Perry, Georgia. According to the FSIS press release, the following products are under review.

  • 22 oz. (1.38 lbs.) vacuum sealed plastic packages of “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.
  • 29 oz. (1.81 lbs.) vacuum sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.
  • 22 oz. (1.38 lbs.) vacuum sealed packages of “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with a best before date of “03 23 25” on the back of the package.

According to Perdue Foods, the recall was initiated after receiving consumer complaints about metal wires incorporated into the product. However, it is worth noting that there have been no reports of adverse reactions from consumers due to consumption of these products. Information on refunds and exchanges of the product can be found here.

Since the production date of these products was March 23, 2024, it’s quite possible that some consumers purchased these items and then stored them in a freezer for later use. If you have ready-to-eat chicken nuggets or chicken tenders in your freezer, be sure to check the label before serving them to your family.
