Cooling Centers: The City of Houston announces the opening of several centers where residents can find relief from the heat

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – The city of Houston opened several cooling centers across the region on Sunday to provide residents with relief from the ongoing heat wave.

A heat warning is in effect for most of southeast Texas starting Sunday, with triple-digit temperatures expected through Tuesday.

The city announced that Houston libraries, except for the Central Library in downtown, will serve as cooling centers on Saturday and Sunday during normal business hours. Select community centers are expected to open citywide starting at 10 a.m.

Free rides to cooling centers are available by calling 3-1-1.
