Quinta Brunson: Abbott Elementary’s successes honor “the people who watch our show”

When it comes to awards, Abbott Elementary is the best in its class among network comedies. This year, it is the only network sitcom nominated in the comedy category.

Outstanding Comedy is just one of nine Emmy nominations for Abbott Elementary. It also has nods for directing, writing, casting, hair and acting for Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James and Quinta Brunson, who said on the red carpet that they do all their hard work for the fans.

“It’s the people who watch our show,” she said. “They are very proud when we are nominated for something. That has become important to me.”

Brunson, the creator of “Abbott Elementary,” won best actress at last year’s Emmys, becoming the first black actress to do so in 40 years.

“Quinta is incredible,” exclaimed nominee Janelle James. “It’s amazing to me how much she does and how brilliantly she does it all at the highest level.”

“I think it’s nice, you know, especially as a network comedy, you know what I mean? There’s not a lot of us in the conversation,” Tyler James Williams said.

In the three seasons that Abbott Elementary aired, the show received 24 nominations and won four awards. The show’s track record and success have not gone unnoticed by its stars.

“It is a true blessing that all these wonderful people have come together to capture lightning in a bottle. We have it. We are grateful and will hold on to it for as long as we can,” said Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Watch the 76th Primetime Emmys on September 15 on ABC.

And you can watch all three seasons of Abbott Elementary on Hulu.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC channel.
