Police reported that a group of students patrolling the streets early this morning found the money in the Bhadra area of the city.

The students said they noticed a shopping bag abandoned on the street as they returned to their city dorm after their night patrol.

Upon closer inspection, the students found several bundles of money and a five-centimeter-sized gold-colored metal object in the bag.

The students then took the bag full of money to the Boalia police station in Rajshahi, where the seized money was counted in the presence of policemen, soldiers and a judge.

The bag contained 17.92 lakh taka.

“With the permission of the court, the money will now be deposited in the state treasury. The metal object is made of brass. The presence of the judge facilitated the examination and verification of the object and brought with him a goldsmith certificate,” said OC SM Masud Parvez.

He also said that investigations would be launched to identify the owner of the money and determine whether it was illegally owned or accidentally lost by a criminal.

SM Masud Parvez said that legal action would be initiated based on the findings of the investigation.
