Arsenal FC and adidas design football pitch at Mayville Estate

The square is intended to provide a safe place for young people and help reduce knife crime.

The opening of the square was marked by a fun day with football training, music and food.

The pitch is part of a larger project to regenerate the Mayville Estate. The project is funded by Arsenal FC and adidas, as well as the National Lottery.

The new pitch is a welcome addition to the Mayville Estate, providing a place for young people to play football and socialise in a safe environment.

The project also aims to help reduce knife crime in the area. Knife crime is a serious problem in London and the new square is one of several initiatives being taken to combat it.

Councillor Flora Williamson, Executive Member for Health and Social Care, said: “In Islington, we are committed to supporting our communities and working to make our borough a place where young people get the best possible start in life.

“By investing in safe places to play football, such as the Mayville Estate pitch, we can give young people in Islington the opportunity to stay active, have fun, learn new skills and fulfil their potential.

“Thank you to Arsenal and Adidas for making the transformation of this pitch possible and for their ongoing commitment to young people through their ‘No More Red’ campaign.”

Freddie Hudson, Arsenal’s Head of Community, said: “I’m really proud that our partnership with adidas allows us to create a third pitch in the borough. Pitches like this are valuable safe spaces that give young people access to a support network with key role models in our local community. This helps to create a sense of belonging, which remains at the heart of our No More Red campaign and our club as we continue to support positive social change in our community.”
