I am glad that someone (Martin Daly, SC, Sunday Express, 11 August) has written about Ms Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s selfish ambition to lead the UNC (United National Congress) into another unsuccessful election campaign.

The majority of UNC supporters I know do not want her, but she is willing to watch the country continue to decline without regard or compassion for her supporters.

There are people in my family who used to support UNC but will not vote for them.

She’s not going to win the next election. I’m not sure what those around her say, but she should do an approval poll. The results might shock her, or they might not.

I have been calling for years for the party’s financiers to ask her to resign. They continue to support her as party leader and are equally responsible for her grandiose plans to implement her failed ambitions.

There are some good, decent people in the UNC who can make a difference, who are intelligent and who care about the country. But Ms. Kamla Persad-Bissessar is not one of them.

To Ms Persad-Bissessar: You were opposition leader for ten years. You are older now. Your hunger for power is bizarre at worst, inappropriate at best. The PNM (People’s National Movement) must not be allowed to continue to ruin this country as it is already doing. Decent citizens are leaving in droves because of crime and other survival problems.

Dr Rowley was right when he said that the PNM will be victorious in the elections as long as Ms Persad-Bissessar remains opposition leader. Put the country before yourself and resign. You will win respect, just as US President Joe Biden has done.

To Mr Daly, SC: Thank you for your extraordinary and courageous article. I couldn’t have said it better.

I sincerely hope and pray that the people around Ms. Persad-Bissessar will use her skills and powers of persuasion to remove her and give the country a reason to celebrate.
