Motorcycle clubs in Central Texas ride for veterans from Belton to Lampasas

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) – The Texas Purple Heart Riders Association rode from Belton to Lampasas on Purple Heart Day to raise awareness for wounded and fallen veterans.

This is the second year the association has hosted its Purple Heart Day ride. To receive a Purple Heart, a member of the U.S. military must have been killed or wounded in action. All members of the Purple Heart Riders Association have been awarded Purple Hearts.

Hot Rod, the state president of the Texas Purple Heart Riders Association, contacted VFW Post 10377 in Belton to begin their ride. Post Commander John Burford said he was happy to help.

“I will never turn away a veteran,” Burford said. “I will never say no. No matter what veteran comes here, if they want something, it’s always yes at this post. Always.”

In addition to the Texas Purple Heart Riders Association, several other motorcycle clubs from Central Texas to Dallas also took part in the ride.

They drove from the Belton VFW Post to Young’s BBQ in Lampasas.

They ended the day at the Silver Wings Saloon in Killeen. Food and live music were provided for the drivers.

Two raffles were held with proceeds going to Train a Dog, Save a Warrior, a nonprofit organization that provides service animals to veterans.

“We drive for those who can’t drive,” said Hot Rod.

Hot Rod said he hopes the community will continue to support the ride for years to come.

“This lets everyone know they have support in the military,” Rod said.
