Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has had many high-profile relationships in the showbiz world, but her affair with ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor is the most famous one. The duo dated early in his career and their breakup garnered a lot of attention back then. After that, Deepika entered into a relationship with actor Ranveer Singh and married him in 2018. The couple once confessed that they dated casually for the initial years and received a lot of negative criticism for the same.

Deepika Padukone spoke about wanting to be very clear about relationships

Recently, we came across an old video of Deepika Padukone where she talked about seeking clarity in relationships. The actress mentioned that she hates being on standby and not engaging with her partner. She terms such relationships as a matter of convenience and compromise. She was heard saying:

“You put someone on hold or on standby and say, ‘Let’s see how it goes. You do your thing, I’ll do my thing, and we’ll meet six months later and see how it goes.’ I think there’s a lack of clarity in a situation like that. It’s a compromise and a question of expediency.”

Moving along the same lines, Deepika Padukone admitted that she never wants to be in such a situation as she wants clarity in her life. She also termed this approach as wrong and mentioned that she would not encourage such a thing in her life. In Deepika’s words:

“I don’t want to get into that situation because I’m someone who has to be aware of where I’m going and what I’m doing.”

The next section of the video showed Deepika Padukone sharing the couch with Ranveer Singh on the talk show. Coffee with Karan 8. During the conversation, the actress spoke about the initial phase of her relationship and revealed that she was not committed to Ranveer as she had had difficult relationships in the past and wanted to be free from commitments. Deepika also shared that she was dating other people but in her mind, she was committed to Ranveer. The actress was heard saying:

“I was in a phase where I was like, ‘I just don’t want to commit, I don’t want a committed relationship.’ And I was having fun! And then he came along, so I didn’t commit until he proposed to me. There was no ‘commitment as such.’ Even if we were technically seeing other people, we would just keep coming back to each other. I was seeing other people. I wasn’t interested or excited by anyone I was seeing. In my head, I was committed to him. I would see other people, but in the back of my mind, it was like I was coming back to him.”

Deepika Padukone revealed she doesn’t know how to date casually

In 2014, when Deepika Padukone appeared CHP Like Priyanka Chopra, she was rumoured to be dating Ranveer Singh. Karan asked Deepika if she was dating Ranveer and why she didn’t talk about it publicly unlike Ranbir Kapoor. To this, Deepika said that she was very scared of getting emotionally involved in a relationship as she doesn’t plan on casual flings. She doesn’t want to date but doesn’t want to make a commitment to her partner. The actress also mentioned that her views on casual dating have more to do with Indian culture as she grew up with it.
