An ambulance service has blocked its accounts on social media site X because they had enabled the “distribution of unacceptable and offensive content”.

The North East Ambulance Service pointed out that some content on Elon Musk’s website, formerly known as Twitter, was no longer consistent with its values.

Spokesman Mark Cotton said: “We firmly believe that the lack of control over content on X allows unacceptable and offensive content to spread. This has led to a sharp rise in hate speech and misinformation that is inconsistent with our values.”

“We expect our employees to uphold our values and standards when representing our service, and we should also uphold those values and standards when using social media.”

He added: “Social media platforms can be controversial, but we will continue to use Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn where we have a lot of followers.”
