Media turns against Harris for economic policy “tricks”

The media has come under fire for its hesitation to press Vice President Kamala Harris after she replaced President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket, but not all left-leaning media are buying her much-anticipated economic plan to fight inflation.

After weeks of not presenting a policy platform on her campaign website, Harris has now unveiled her plan to combat inflation, targeting business owners who raise their prices in a market where the cost of buying and producing goods has never been higher.

“Harris’ plan to stop price gouging could create more problems than it solves,” reads a CNN headline. Washington Post published an opinion piece titled “The Times Call for Serious Economic Ideas. Harris Delivers Tricks.” The latter article refuted Harris’ claim that price gouging causes inflation.

One economist told ABC that price increases at grocery stores were not the main cause of inflation, warning: “You have to be careful not to cherry-pick” because “most of the inflation in recent years has been caused by cost increases.”

CNN political commentator Van Jones, on the other hand, praised Harris for taking a “courageous” stance against “price gouging.” He said: “Most Americans don’t have a problem with technology CEOs. It’s these grocery stores that are ripping people off, the big grocers.”

Republicans like RNC co-chair Lara Trump accused the media of creating an “artificial” dynamic for Harris, saying that since Harris succeeded Biden, the press has mostly reported positively about her but allowed her to avoid difficult questions.

The Washington Examiner Tim Carney chided: “Media bias is evident in dozens of reports rejoicing over the ‘joy’ of the Harris-Waltz ticket. Republicans are always afraid that media bias will shift the electoral odds against them, and that’s not wrong.”

Carney explained that many media outlets, which he said are dominated by left-leaning journalists, “fail to criticize, question or investigate their preferred candidates,” and therefore “the conservative media plays a critical role here by informing readers of facts that the left-leaning mainstream media would never report.”

The Democratic Party Convention begins on Monday, and the first presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump will take place in September. The media criticism of Harris’ economic plan could mark a turning point in the coverage of the Vice President, as she will not be able to escape the national spotlight.
