Most of the time, taxi and auto rides are routine affairs with no special features to speak of. But every now and then, these rides turn out to be quite interesting for the passengers. In one such case, a Facebook user shared the inspirational story of a woman taxi driver in Ahmedabad. In his post, the user Ojas Desai narrated that he was in Ahmedabad when he booked an Ola cab and a woman taxi driver came to pick him up. He said that he had seen women driving autorickshaws before, but this was his first encounter with a woman taxi driver. He then asked the woman why she was driving an auto and her response as a taxi driver moved the man to tears.
Sharing the photo of the taxi driver, the man wrote, “Today I booked an Ola Cab in Ahmedabad to reach the railway station. The confirmation message said the driver was Archna Patil. Her name is Archna. A remarkable woman. Driving an Ola Cab may not be that remarkable but I was happy to see her driving so effortlessly and well,” Mr Desai wrote.
“Driving through the old city to Ahmedabad railway station and weaving through the dense and disciplined traffic is always a challenge. I was more than impressed. After all, this was the first time I had come across a woman driver in Ola or Uber. In my city, Surat, I have seen women auto drivers, but I have never used the services of a woman driver in Ola or Uber. Nothing so remarkable, you will say. Well, the remarkable thing is her story,” he added.

Furthermore, Mr. Desai said that the driver’s husband was an Ola driver. He could no longer work due to health reasons and the taxi was hired. So she decided to work for Ola. The woman learned to drive in six months and got her driving license.
“I don’t want to highlight this as an example of women power or as proof of ‘changing society’. I met a spirited soul today who doesn’t consider bad luck as defeat. I told her I have saved her number. Life is not easy for anyone,” Mr Desai wrote.

The post was shared on Facebook earlier this week and has since received more than 19,000 likes and numerous comments.
Reacting to the post, one person said: “Hands off you lady! Your spirit and resilience is truly remarkable.”
“Brave woman. Had struggles but see her infectious smile. Will encourage other women to take on challenges. And so considerate of you to put her in the spotlight,” said another.
“I always appreciate people who work hard and honestly. Saw pink cars transporting people to Sardar Patel statue in Baroda. I felt happy women working confidently. We should always encourage them,” commented a third user. “A living example of courage and determination. Anyone can achieve anything if they set their mind to it!!!” commented a fourth.
