“Kalki 2989 AD” is set to have its worldwide streaming premiere on Prime Video

Prime Video has announced the global streaming premiere of the Indian science fiction blockbuster “Kalki 2989 AD.” The film is the biggest Indian box office hit of the year with a gross revenue of $131 million.

Kalki 2989 AD is set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD where nature has disappeared and darkness reigns. It is the first installment in the Kalki Cinematic Universe. The film follows the journey of bounty hunter Bhairava as he navigates this dystopian future. The film’s universe was previously introduced through a two-part animated series, B&B: Bujji & Bhairava, available exclusively on Prime Video.

‘Kalki 2989 AD’ is directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. The cast includes Prabhas, who plays Bhairava, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani. The film will be broadcast in the original language Telugu, with dubbing in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam and English subtitles.

Manish Menghani, Director of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, said, “‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has captivated audiences with its compelling storytelling and visionary depiction of a post-apocalyptic future.”

Prabhas added, “Working on ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ with a visionary director like Naga and an exceptional cast was truly exciting. The film not only pushes the boundaries of storytelling with its blend of mythology and futuristic elements but also delves deep into the complexities of human nature.”

Producer C. Aswani Dutt noted that the streaming release of the film on Prime Video is a special way for Vyjayanthi Movies to celebrate its 50th year in the industry.

Ashwin said, “With ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, I wanted to create a cinematic experience that breaks new ground, crosses traditional boundaries and shares our cultural mythology on a global scale.”

Kamal Haasan, who plays the antagonist Supreme Yaskin in the film, described his participation as “both memorable and humbling” and added, “The film represents a significant step forward for Indian cinema.”

“Kalki 2898 AD” will stream on Prime Video from August 2022.
