17-year-old girl injured after falling from ride at Canada’s Wonderland

A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after falling on a ride at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan, Ontario, York Regional Police said.

Const. James Dickson of York Regional Police said officers were called to the park around 2:45 p.m. after the girl was injured in the fall.

Dickson said police concluded there was no criminal background and the call was purely medical in nature.

According to Grace Peacock, communications director for Canada’s Wonderland, operators of the Swing of the Century reported an “injured guest” at 2:35 p.m.

Peacock said in an email Thursday that park medical staff and York Regional Paramedic Service responded and the guest was taken to the hospital.

“The incident is currently under investigation. The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority,” Peacock said in the email.

According to police, the technical safety authority went to the scene of the accident and concluded that there were no problems during the journey.

Canada’s Wonderland’s website states that the Swing of the Century is “a family attraction with free-hanging seats suspended from an elevated, rotating and tilted tower. Riders spin in a circular motion as the tower begins to rise.”
