Traffic stop leads to chase and 2 arrests in Christian County

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) – A traffic stop in Christian County led to a police chase and two arrests.

According to a press release, a detective with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard around 4 p.m. Thursday.

In the vehicle was 41-year-old Brian Smith of Hopkinsville, who had an arrest warrant out for failure to appear.

After Smith was pulled from the vehicle and arrested, the passenger, 35-year-old Heather Ballard of Hopkinsville, took control of the vehicle and fled, resulting in a high-speed chase across several streets.

Authorities said that during the chase, Ballard attempted to cross into oncoming traffic, striking two sheriff’s office vehicles. She was eventually taken into custody after refusing to exit the vehicle and arrested.

Ballard is accused of the following:

  • Resisting arrest
  • Fleeing from the police or escaping from the police
  • First degree willful endangerment
  • First degree property damage
  • Disregard – do not give way
  • Third degree assault on a police officer
  • Lack of signaling

Ballard was also served with five arrest warrants for probation violations.

Both individuals are being held in the Christian County Jail.
