Google has introduced a number of new tools and features to help integrate the office video conferencing tool into your everyday life.
The company has introduced new additions to the Google Meet mobile app for iOS and Android that make it not only a business-focused tool, but also a tool you enjoy using to chat with friends and family.
The changes include easier access to backgrounds, filters, effects and emojis, as well as enhanced features like live captions.
Google Meet on mobile devices on the rise
Users will also see a new design and appearance of Google Meet on mobile, which the company says will allow them to start and receive video calls much faster than before.
The new layout offers options to quickly start or schedule a Google Meet call and also includes call control buttons like you would see on work calls. This includes the chat feature, which lets you stay in touch with your contacts during a call, share links, and make comments without disrupting the flow of the conversation.
You can now take calls on the go much more easily, thanks to a new audio-only mode that displays larger call control buttons for when you’re on the move or walking.
Personalization and customization have become increasingly important for users everywhere, and Google Meet aims to make that a lot easier too. Whether it’s filters, virtual backgrounds, or even adding accessories like a hat or scarf, the platform allows users to combine and stack multiple effects together to ensure you always look your best.
Emoji reactions can now also be sent, allowing users to quickly respond to what is being said during the call without interrupting the conversation. Examples include a thumbs up, smiley face, or cheering reaction.
“Today we’re starting to roll out an updated video calling experience in Google Meet that includes a new look and new features to help you stay even better connected with everyone you chat with—from friends and family to classmates and colleagues,” wrote Jennifer Shen, product manager at Google Meet, in a blog post announcing the news.
“With these updates, you can more easily access enhanced features, use emoji reactions, and try out on-the-go mode, while still enjoying a consistent experience on video calls and scheduled meetings in Meet.”
