(CHICAGO) — The Democratic National Convention begins in Chicago on Monday, August 19, as Democratic Party delegates will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, after their unconventional path to the party’s nomination.
During the four-day convention, Democratic heavyweights will mobilize their base and rally behind Harris, who was officially confirmed as the Democratic presidential nominee earlier this month after winning the vast majority of delegates’ votes in a virtual voice vote.
Harris’ path to the DNC was unorthodox and truncated after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on July 21 and endorsed Harris for the post.

When and where will the DNC take place?
The 2024 DNC will take place in Chicago from August 19 to 22.
Official events, primetime programs and speeches will take place at the United Center – home of the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls. Additional party activities will take place at the McCormick Place Convention Center.
With a convention in Chicago, the Democrats are in good territory. Chicago is a Democratic stronghold that, according to the DNC, “was part of the ‘blue wall’ that was critical to Biden and Harris’ victory in 2020 and will be critical to a Harris and Walz victory in November.”
“Chicago is the perfect place to share the story of Vice President Harris, Governor Walz and the Democratic Party with the American people. Chicago represents the diversity of the Democratic Party and the country,” the DNC said.
What is the DNC schedule? Who are the speakers?
While the DNC has not yet released a list of speakers scheduled for each evening, its website lists some of the party’s daytime events, including caucus and council meetings and press conferences.
Biden is scheduled to speak at the DNC on Monday.
Sources told ABC News that according to a work schedule that is subject to change, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also speak Monday night, former President Barack Obama on Tuesday, Walz and former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday and Harris on Thursday.
As usual, Democratic National Committee Chairman Jamie Harrison will ring the gavel on the first night of the convention.
How can I watch the DNC?
The DNC will stream on multiple platforms – including TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. The official live stream of the 2024 Democratic National Convention will be available on its website.
According to the DNC, primetime programs will air live on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. CT and Tuesday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET/6 p.m. to 10 p.m. CT.
