BRELAND recently lost the hard drive on which countless of his song ideas were stored.

“It was devastating,” the 29-year-old singer-songwriter tells PEOPLE from his home in New Jersey after a recent trip to the UK. “I could probably recreate most of them, and I have bits of the tracks in my email and in different places…”

His voice trails off as country music’s creative titan reflects on everything stored on his hard drive, but BRELAND knows inspiration will strike again.

“Inspiration can come in a million different ways and at a million different times,” explains BRELAND. “I value songwriting very much. Even if I were doing something else, I would still write songs for fun, just because it means a lot to me and is part of my way of communicating with the world as a human being and categorizing and organizing my thoughts.”

Related: BRELAND makes the most of his unlikely country fame: ‘I belong here. This is what I’m meant to do.’

And although BRELAND has told his own story in songs like “Cross Country,” he is now actively seeking new ideas to unleash his creative powers because, deep down, he believes everyone has a story to tell.

“Everything has a story that needs to be told,” says BRELAND, who burst onto the music scene in 2019 with his platinum-selling debut single “My Truck.” “You just have to know how to tell it. Anytime I get the chance to tell stories through music, it’s really my favorite thing to do. I think that’s my purpose as a human being on this planet.”

BRELAND for Busch Light

When Busch Light approached the multi-platinum artist about partnering with him on his new songwriting campaign titled “Real Country, Real Lyrics,” BRELAND jumped at the chance.

“It’s really special when you get the chance to tell someone else’s story,” BRELAND says of the campaign, which encourages Busch Light fans to submit their own story on social media by tagging #BuschLight and #RealLyrics for a chance to be included in an upcoming song. “Every story is there to be heard. I think every story is worthy of being in a song. It’s just a matter of whether a song gets written or not.”

And there are plenty of ideas.

“Some people have more general ideas, like saying they like hanging out with friends and lighting a Busch Light over a campfire,” explains BRELAND. “But there are also people who get more specific. And I think either way, a really unique song will emerge. I’m excited to deliver something that sounds really good and is also a really unique writing experience.”

BRELAND seems to be thinking only about writing and recording at the moment, and the New Jersey native hints that a brand new project is coming soon.

“I’ve been working on a lot of new music,” says BRELAND, who has worked with artists such as Lady A, Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett in the past. “I toured earlier this year and played some shows, but I really wanted to take the summer off and really just find time to write.”

BRELAND admits his chaotic career has taken its toll over the past few years, playing nearly 300 shows from 2022 to 2023. “Honestly, it was physically and mentally unbearable, especially when you really have to dive in and make new music,” says BRELAND, whose Little More Country tour concluded in May.

And it is this new music that may reveal a whole new side of the artist.

“I’ve had a lot of life experiences, love and loss and heartache and pain, but also some really great joys,” BRELAND tells PEOPLE. “So yeah, I have a lot of ideas that I wanted to put into a project. It’s just about having the space and making sure I’m the best version of myself to be able to achieve those things.”
