Report: 40 percent of hybrid employees dissatisfied with video communication

The aim of the study was to find out how employee motivation is influenced by communication.

Vizrt has published the results of its employee engagement study.

The graphics and live production solutions provider has released the results of a commissioned study that examined how leading companies are using video solutions to increase engagement and efficiency in the workplace.

Key findings showed how important video communication is for employee engagement. Seventy percent of employees said the quality of company communication impacted their engagement. Forty percent of hybrid employees considered leaving their job due to poor video communication.

Nearly half of respondents (49 percent) agreed that high-quality video communications had a positive impact on their motivation, and 67 percent said technologies such as town halls and live streams were more effective than other methods in helping them understand the business and stay true to their company’s vision.

The survey included figures from Gallup that suggested low employee engagement may have led to a 9 percent decline in global GDP last year. Engagement is directly linked to turnover, absenteeism rates and productivity.

Commenting on the report, Chris Black, global head of brand and communications at Vizrt, said: “Hybrid working is not going away. Combined with the growing need for global businesses to be more efficient, reduce costs and be more sustainable, video offers a viable solution. In this remote era, companies need to engage and motivate their employees no matter where they are, and high-quality in-house video production is proven to work.”

Evolving expectations

88 percent of employees said the quality of video communication was important in their day-to-day work, reflecting the changing expectations and attitudes of a workforce that has embraced hybrid/remote methods. 83 percent of companies now use some form of video for communication activities.

When asked what technologies their company should invest in to improve video communications, the top three responses were real-time data visualization, live streaming capabilities and audience engagement tools. Additionally, 39 percent expressed a desire for interactive graphics, 34 percent wanted virtual reality and 32 percent would like to see 3D animations in communications.
