Powell’s Johnson earns WyoPreps AOY baseball honors with 23-24 (VIDEO)

After a fantastic 2024 Wyoming American Legion Baseball season, Powell Pioneer Brock Johnson was named the first WyoPreps Athlete of the Year for Legion Baseball. Receiving the honor from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear, Johnson earned the fifth All-State honor of his career and led the Pioneers to their second consecutive Single-A state championship last month.

Johnson excelled at the plate and on the mound. As a pitcher, Brock had a record of 10-2 with three saves. He threw 72.1 innings and had a .774 ERA. Johnson allowed 28 walks and had 134 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .094 batting average. Offensively, Johnson was the Pioneers’ primary leadoff hitter. He finished 2024 with 100 hits, including 27 extra-base hits. Johnson had 17 doubles, three triples, and seven home runs. He scored 47 runs and scored 94 times. Johnson allowed 42 walks, had just 18 strikeouts, and finished the year with 43 stolen bases.

Brock was one of nine seniors who helped the Pioneers win the Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class A state title on his home field. Powell posted a 47-18 record during the 2024 season. Six of her losses were against Double-A opponents. Johnson was named Single-A Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year by the Wyoming Legion Baseball coaches.

WyoPreps visited Johnson on Tuesday as he prepared to transfer to college. He will play baseball at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ. Johnson was pleasantly surprised to receive this award. He talked about his 2024 season. Johnson felt his hitting could have been better and knew his focus was pitching. On the mound, he split his throws more often than in the past and described two throws as “a work in progress.” He mentioned that getting on base was the number one goal.
